As you’ve already seen the title most of you remembered two “leading OTT content platform” as NETFLIX & AMAZON PRIME. But how to they works together ? what’s the benefit of working together when both of these companies are trying to conquer the OTT customers ? Well let’s see that in this article

Here netflix is not using the help of amazon prime but instead they’re actually using another service offered the parent company of amazon prime which is amazon.com inc and that service is called “Amazon Web Services” a.k.a AWS which is one of the worlds leading cloud computing platform, Before we digging deep into AWS let’s understand what is cloud computing

What is cloud ?

Cloud computing is the delivery of on-demand computing services from applications to storage and processing power typically over the internet and on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Cloud Computing

Rather than owning their own computing infrastructure or data centers, companies can rent access to anything from applications to storage from a cloud service provider. One benefit of using cloud computing services is that firms can avoid the upfront cost and complexity of owning and maintaining their own IT infrastructure, and instead simply pay for what they use, when they use it.

What is AWS ?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a subsidiary of Amazon providing on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay as you go basis.

AWS

These cloud computing web services provide a variety of basic abstract technical infrastructure and distributed computing building blocks and tools. One of these services is Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), which allows users to have at their disposal a virtual cluster of computers, available all the time, through the Internet. AWS’s version of virtual computers emulates most of the attributes of a real computer, including hardware central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs) for processing; local/RAM memory; hard-disk/SSD storage; a choice of operating systems; networking; and pre-loaded application software such as web servers, databases, and customer relationship management (CRM)

How Does Netflix Benefits AWS ?

Netflix is the world’s leading internet television network, with more than 100 million members in more than 190 countries enjoying 125 million hours of TV shows and movies each day. Netflix uses AWS for nearly all its computing and storage needs, including databases, analytics, recommendation engines, video transcoding, and more hundreds of functions that in total use more than 100,000 server instances on AWS.

Even though they’re two leading companies that are competing each other netflix utilizes the cost effective way of storing they’re terabytes of datas while amazon benefits by having their arch nemesis as their client. Amazon web services offers a lot of services like EC2 , RDS , S3 , Cloudfront , VPC etc. Among all these services netflix mainly benefits by using a specific service called “Amazon Kinesis”

What is Amazon Kinesis ?

Amazon Kinesis

Amazon Kinesis makes it easy to collect, process, and analyze real-time, streaming data so you can get timely insights and react quickly to new information. Amazon Kinesis offers key capabilities to cost-effectively process streaming data at any scale, along with the flexibility to choose the tools that best suit the requirements of your application. With Amazon Kinesis, you can ingest real-time data such as video, audio, application logs, website clickstreams, and IoT telemetry data for machine learning, analytics, and other applications. Amazon Kinesis enables you to process and analyze data as it arrives and respond instantly instead of having to wait until all your data is collected before the processing can begin.
